25% of South Africas Youth Have No Parents!!

Almost a quarter of the countries under eighteens are growing up without their biological parents. The number has been growing by about 100 000 a year, from 3.7 million in 2002 to 4.2 million in 2007. Read that back to yourself slowly. Almost 25% of a Nations Future is growing up without the love and guidance of their Biological Parents. If I just think about my own life without my own two kids aged 2 and 7, then that statistic alone leaves a big hole in my Gut. To stop and think that 25% of the Teens and Pre-Teens in this country do not know what the conventional meaning of the word “Family” means saddens me greatly.

The Importance of Punctuation

An English professor wrote these words on a blackboard:
“a woman without her man is nothing”
Then directed the students to punctuate it correctly.

The men wrote: “A woman, without her man, is nothing.”

Compulsive Gambler

There was this 5-year-old boy named Johnny, and he was very wise in the ways of the world. His problem was
that he was a compulsive gambler and couldn’t resist making all these outrageous wagers.
“Hey Dad! Behind that pine tree you’ll see two squirrels doing it!”
The father was understandably shocked. “Son, how could you say such [...]

The Sharks Win and Pretoria goes Quiet

Last night the B side saw their arse against an under strength Natal Sharks B side while the A listers were away on National duty for the Tri Nations. What really surprises me is the lack of communication from those self same Brandy swigging hooligans are all on vacation this morning. Not a word on any social networking site.

Who Pays for these Studies? Study nails secret of child sleep – Are you Kidding Me!

Are you kidding me? Speak to any parent who had kids before the internet age and they will tell you the same thing I am sure. I don’t remember ever having to be threatened to go to bed at night, I was always too knackered. That is because when I was not at school running around, I was either on the tennis court, soccer field, rugby field or cricket pitch, that’s right, running around. I posted a related story last week http://desktopfactory.co.za/?p=580 that also talks about this and its relevance to bullying in schools today which sadly has become so prevalent.

Amazing 21st Birthday

Bubba had long heard the stories of an amazing 21st Birthday family tradition. His father, grandfather, and
great-grandfather had all been able to walk on water on their 21st birthday. On that special day, they’d each
walked across the lake to the bar on the far side for their first legal drink.
So when Bubba’s 21st birthday came [...]
